Mahmoud Dahoud returned to Germany on a permanent basis in the summer, ending his one-year stay at Brighton and Hove Albion where he played just 14 games before being shipped to VfB Stuttgart on loan. But now excelling at Eintracht Frankfurt, the 28-year-old has ambitions to win a trophy with his new club.

“We are in a flow, and I hope it stays that way,” said Dahoud. “If we grow even closer together, then we can achieve something special as a team.” When asked what that could be, the German-Syrian replied: “You want to have something in your hands as a player.”

Eintracht currently find themselves third in the Bundesliga under Dino Toppmöller, one point behind leaders Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. Die Adler also remain unbeaten in this season’s Europa League, while the DFB Pokal is also a possibility.

And this weekend, Eintracht Frankfurt play at reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, but Dahoud believes they can take inspiration from Saturday’s opponents. “It certainly won’t be an easy game,” said Dahoud. “Bayer is on the same level as Bayern, who played outstandingly against us. But, it is doable.”

When Oscar Højlund broke his metatarsal at the end of August, Dahoud seized on the opportunity. The former Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund midfielder has featured in Eintracht’s last three Bundesliga games, and has started both games in Europe against Viktoria Plzen and Besiktas.
