Manchester United faced off against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a positive result in the second round of the EFL Cup. The Red Devils made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 22nd minute when Charles Verman found the back of the net. Tyrell Warren doubled his team’s advantage just eight minutes later as Ruben Amorim’s men went into the half-time break 2-0 down on the scoreline.

Bryan Mbeumo got a goal back for the visitors in the 75th minute before Harry Maguire equalised for Man United in the 89th minute. The contest finished with both teams playing out a 2-2 draw.

Man United ended up losing the tie 12-11 on penalties.

Maguire made a lot of crucial clearances at the back and did well to score the equaliser late in the game. He also scored his penalty in the shootout.

He cleared his lines when needed and was replaced after the hour mark.

RM: Diogo Dalot – 7.5/10

He was a positive influence at both ends of the field and managed to convert his penalty in the shootout.

CM: Kobbie Mainoo – 7.5/10

Mainoo caught the eye at times and has got an assist to show for his efforts.

CM: Manuel Ugarte – 6/10

He struggled to get a foothold in the game and was replaced at half-time.

LM: Patrick Dorgu – 6.5/10

Dorgu showed a few glimpses of what he can do in the first half, but was substituted at half-time.

RAM: Amad Diallo – 6.5/10

He caused some problems for the opposition defenders, but there was no goal for him.

LAM: Matheus Cunha – 7/10

Cunha was a constant menace in the final third but missed his penalty in the shootout.

ST: Benjamin Sesko – 7/10

He was not shy of having a strike at goal and managed to convert his penalty.
