Tottenham midfielder James Maddison is likely to be sidelined for the final three weeks of the campaign due to a knee problem.
The 28-year-old found the net but then picked up the injury during last Thursday’s 3-1 triumph over Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final clash.
Head coach Ange Postecoglou initially offered an upbeat outlook in the aftermath of the match.
However, by Friday morning, it became apparent that the issue was more severe than initially believed, and follow-up scans have since confirmed that.
Insiders suggest Maddison is currently undergoing evaluation for potential ligament damage in his knee, with further details expected within 48 hours.
This development is a setback for Spurs, who are in a strong position to progress to the Europa League final, with the return leg set to take place in Norway on Thursday, 8 May.
Nonetheless, it is highly unlikely Maddison will feature in either the second leg or a potential final in Bilbao later this month.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw against West Ham on Sunday, Postecoglou said: "We'll probably get some clarity [on Monday].
"It is fair to say it's not looking promising, but we'll just wait and see."
