The New England Revolution have confirmed the capture of United States Men’s National Team goalkeeper Matt Turner on a loan deal from Lyon, with an option to buy at the end of the season.
Turner, 31, joins the Revolution after signing a three‑year contract with Lyon earlier this summer, only to be promptly loaned back to MLS side New England, who will cover his wages and hold the right to make the move permanent.
A former supporter’s Shield winner and 2021 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year with New England, Turner returns to the club where he earned his reputation.
He made over a century of appearances for the Revolution before moving to Arsenal in 2022, later joining Nottingham Forest and spending the 2024/25 season on loan at Crystal Palace, where he was part of the FA Cup‑winning squad.
This move represents a homecoming for Turner, who has amassed more than 50 international caps for the U.S., and starred in CONCACAF Gold Cup and Nations League victories, claiming the Golden Glove honours in those competitions. Head coach of the Revolution, the signing is a major coup, bringing experience, leadership and proven quality between the posts.
It ends a confusing few weeks for Turner, who has previously signed a contract with Lyon despite the French club not wanting the goalkeeper due to their financial struggles under previous own John Textor.
Lyon were unable to void that deal which had been struck under the old ownership but have now found a solution with the season-long loan move.
The Revolution currently feature Alex Bono and rookie Donovan Parisian in their goalkeeping ranks after squad reinforcements earlier this year. Turner’s arrival significantly bolsters their depth as they aim to challenge for silverware in the coming months.
Revolution fans will welcome the return of a familiar figure, hoping that Turner’s presence can elevate performances and provide stability at the back. With the season well underway, his arrival could be a decisive moment in their campaign.
