Inter Milan’s pursuit of Ademola Lookman remains unresolved after a high-level meeting with Atalanta concluded without agreement.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter have submitted a formal offer worth €40m plus €5m in bonuses, but the Nerazzurri have made clear that they will not raise their bid.
The negotiations, held earlier today, were described as constructive but inconclusive. Notably, Atalanta have yet to name an official asking price for the Nigerian international, a detail which continues to stall progress despite Inter’s firm position.
That could open the door for Atlético de Madrid with Diego Simeone's side believed to be keen on the winger. Lookman himself though, has reportedly insisted he wishes to stay in Italy.
Lookman, 26, enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign with Atalanta, scoring 17 goals in all competitions and playing a pivotal role in their UEFA Europa League success. His versatility across the forward line and ability to thrive in transition has made him a top priority for Inter, who are looking to refresh their attacking options ahead of the new Serie A season.
While Inter’s offer represents a substantial financial commitment—particularly given their recent outlay on players such as Piotr Zieliński and Josep Martínez—Atalanta’s reluctance to commit to a valuation suggests they remain open to exploring higher bids from elsewhere, or potentially keeping the player should suitable terms not be met.
Inter are said to view their current proposal as “fair market value”, particularly in light of Lookman’s age and contract length, which runs until June 2026. Club officials have made it clear that the €45 million package is their final position, and are now awaiting Atalanta’s formal response in the coming days.
Sources close to the talks expect negotiations to continue into August, with Lookman reportedly open to a move but unwilling to force an exit. Atalanta, meanwhile, remain under no pressure to sell, particularly after recouping funds through recent departures and their Champions League qualification.
For now, Inter remain hopeful that their bid will be accepted as both clubs weigh up their next steps in what is shaping up to be one of Serie A’s most intriguing transfer sagas of the summer.
