The UEFA Women’s Champions League is reaching its decisive knockout stages, with the quarter-final and semi-final draws set to take place in Nyon on Friday, 7th February at 1:00 PM CET.

FC Barcelona Femení, the defending champions and current holders of the UEFA No. 1 coefficient ranking, are among the seeded teams after winning Group D in dominant fashion.

The Possible Quarter-Final Opponents for Barcelona Femení:

As group winners, Barcelona join Chelsea, Arsenal, and Lyon in the seeded section of the draw. They will be matched against one of the group runners-up, with the restriction that they cannot face Manchester City, who were in their group. This leaves three possible opponents:

  • VfL Wolfsburg Women
  • Real Madrid Femenino
  • FC Bayern Munich

A potential El Clásico femenino against Real Madrid would undoubtedly be a highlight of the quarter-finals, while Wolfsburg remains a familiar opponent for Barcelona in recent seasons.

Knockout Round Format & Key Dates:

The quarter-final first legs are scheduled for 18/19 March, with the second legs on 26/27 March. The semi-final first legs will take place on 19/20 April, with the return legs on 26/27 April. The final will be held on 24th May at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, Portugal.

The semi-final draw will be conducted immediately after the quarter-final draw, with no seedings or country protection. The home team for the final will also be determined by a draw.

The Champions League Pedigree of Barcelona Femení:

Barcelona Femení are the reigning three-time champions, having lifted the trophy in 2020/21, 2022/23, and 2023/24. They secured their place in the knockouts after a 3-0 victory over Manchester City W.F.C. in the final group matchday, with Clàudia Pina finishing as the Catalan team’s top scorer of the group stage.

In recent years, Barça Femení have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in European football:

  • They have won their last six consecutive quarter-finals, last failing to progress in the 2017/18 season against Lyon.
  • They are the only team to have topped their group in all four seasons under the current format.
  • They aim to become only the second club after Lyon to win three consecutive titles.
  • If they reach the final, they will match Lyon’s record of making five straight finals (2016-2020).

Record Against Potential Opponents:

  1. Bayern München: 2022/23 group stage (won 3-0, lost 3-1), 2018/19 semi-finals (won 2-0 on aggregate)
  2. Real Madrid: 2021/22 quarter-finals (won 8-3 on aggregate)
  3. Wolfsburg: 2022/23 final (won 3-2 in a dramatic comeback), 2021/22 semi-finals (won 5-3 on aggregate), 2019/20 semi-finals (lost 1-0), 2013/14 quarter-finals (lost 5-0 on aggregate)

Barcelona Femení will be eager to defend their title and continue their dominance on the European stage. With the draw approaching, all eyes will be on Nyon as the path to Lisbon is revealed.
