Tyler Morton Must Sack His Agent If No Move Materialises – Davis’ Blunt Verdict

Liverpool’s midfield is bursting at the seams, yet Tyler Morton remains stuck in limbo. In the latest episode of Monday Marker on Anfield Index, host Dave Davis did not hold back when discussing Morton’s situation, even going as far as suggesting that the 21-year-old should consider changing his agent if a loan move isn’t secured by the end of the transfer window.

With Liverpool making no senior midfield signings, keeping Jack McConnell instead of loaning him out, and already having six established first-team midfielders, Davis’ concern is clear: where on earth is Morton going to play?

No Pathway at Liverpool – So Why No Move?

Despite his obvious talent, Tyler Morton is facing a major roadblock at Liverpool. Once seen as one of the club’s brightest young midfielders, he now appears stuck behind a midfield wall that includes Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Harvey Elliott.

Davis summed up the problem, saying:

“Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szobo, Jones, Elliott, Endo – those are your six senior midfielders. McConnell is now being kept… so where’s Morton getting his minutes?”

His frustration was evident when he suggested that Morton’s camp has failed to find him a solution in this window, stating:

“If Tyler Morton hasn’t got a move by 11 o’clock tonight, I think he needs to look at switching his representatives.”

It’s a scathing assessment but hard to argue with. At 21, Morton is no longer a fresh-faced prospect—he needs to be playing regular first-team football to continue his development.

Bench-Warming Benefits No One

Morton spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, where he impressed in the Championship. A technically gifted midfielder with good vision, passing range, and tactical awareness, he was expected to kick on either by fighting for a squad role at Liverpool or securing another loan move.

Instead, he finds himself in an awkward middle ground. Not trusted enough for regular first-team minutes at Anfield, but not being pushed towards another loan either.

Davis pointed out the harsh reality by referring to Liverpool’s recent Champions League group-stage match against PSV Eindhoven:

“Tyler Morton was on the bench. So where are his minutes? I just genuinely, genuinely don’t see where they are for the kid.”

The PSV game was the perfect opportunity to give Morton a proper run-out, yet McConnell played instead. That should have set off alarm bells for Morton and his camp.

Liverpool’s Brutal Midfield Competition

The competition for places in Liverpool’s midfield is no joke. Jurgen Klopp’s departure hasn’t changed that under Arne Slot, and Morton’s pathway is completely blocked.

Davis made that clear by repeating the pecking order problem, highlighting McConnell’s continued presence while Morton remains sidelined.

“James McConnell has Carabao Cup winner’s medal. James McConnell has Champions League minutes.”

In other words, Liverpool clearly see a future for McConnell, but Morton? Right now, he’s an afterthought.

If Morton were truly seen as a long-term Liverpool player, he’d either be getting games or heading out on loan. Instead, he’s in a holding pattern, losing valuable development time.

Time to Take Control – Morton Must Move

For Morton, the solution is clear:

If Liverpool won’t play him, he needs to leave—either permanently or on loan. If no move materialises, serious questions need to be asked about his representation. At 21, he needs to be playing every week, not sitting on the bench or making U23 appearances.

Dave Davis’ blunt take cuts to the heart of the issue: if Morton’s representatives fail to secure a move before the window closes, they’re not doing their job.

“If Tyler Morton hasn’t got a move by 11 o’clock tonight, I think he needs to look at switching his representatives.”

With time running out in the window, Morton must act fast. Otherwise, he risks losing another crucial season, stuck on the outside looking in at Liverpool’s first-team.

And if no move happens? He might need more than just a new club—he might need a new agent.

Morton’s Future Hangs in the Balance

Liverpool’s midfield situation isn’t changing anytime soon. Morton’s time at Anfield looks limited, and staying without minutes benefits no one.

If a move doesn’t happen before the deadline, then perhaps Davis is right. It’s time for Morton to seriously reconsider who’s handling his career.
