Liverpool’s opening match of the 2025 /26 Premier League season against Bournemouth ended in thrilling 4 - 2 victory at Anfield but the post match scenes left Mohamed Salah visibly emotional.

Emotional tribute after Jota chants

Salah who scored Liverpool’s 4th goal to continue his remarkable streak of netting in season openers celebrated by honoring late teammate Diogo Jota.

At the final whistle, with the Anfield crowd chanting Jota’s name, Salah was overwhelmed and broke into tears. Speaking to Men in Blazers on YouTube, he admitted:

"I wasn’t prepared for it .. when I stood in front of the fans and they sang for Diogo, emotions just hit me"

Adapting with new arrival Ekitike

Asked about new signing Hugo Ekitike, Salah admitted their on field connection is still developing:

"With Jota, Nunez or Luis Diaz I already knew their style. With Hugo it’s different, he’s still new. We’re trying to figure it out in training and through the videos the coach shows us"
