Liverpool appear to have their Joe Gomez replacement already lined up. This comes amid talk the defender could leave this summer.

Anfield Watch exclusively revealed on Thursday that Joe Gomez could leave Liverpool this summer. Gomez wants the club to listen to offers and he may call time on his nine-year spell at Anfield.

Gomez is currently the longest-serving player at Liverpool and the only member of the squad who's been around longer than Jurgen Klopp. However, his spell has been inconsistent.

That is essentially down to injuries. Gomez has held down a starting berth on multiple occasions - notably during the Premier League-winning campaign - but a serious injury has always been around the corner.

It's largely why his squad role changed over the years. This season has seen Gomez become the swiss army knife of Liverpool's squad, filling in across several positions as cover.

He's been a centre-back, a right-back, a left-back and even a holding midfielder. All have been wildly different roles and Liverpool would suddenly feel very short on cover if he left.

However, it appears they may already have his replacement lined up.

Liverpool want Lutsharel Geertruida

Reports this week suggested Liverpool are after Feyenoord's Lutsharel Geertruida. It's one that makes sense, of course - he's been a star under Arne Slot and at 23, the Dutchman feels like a great investment.

In fact, the suggestion is that Geertruida is 'over 50% likely' to follow Slot to Anfield. That's according to De Telegraaf's Marcel van der Kraal, anyway.

And it's one that really makes sense if Gomez leaves. Geertruida is another versatile defensive player and just so happens to cover exactly the same positions as Gomez.

He's primarily a right-back but has started games at left-back and centre-back this season. The 23-year-old has played as a holding midfielder before, too.

It makes him the ideal successor to Gomez, essentially. If the Reds' no.2 wants to leave and Slot wants to bring in a player he knows, there's no better way to do it.
