Liverpool's Florian Wirtz bid reaches CRITICAL stage after latest update | OneFootball

Liverpool are now reported to have made TWO offers for Florian Wirtz. The first fell well short of Bayer Leverkusen’s expectations and the second improved offer was reported to have gone in last Friday.

That second offer was worth £113m in total - comprising £100m plus another £13m in add-ons - and has been once again knocked back by the Germans.

Although Wirtz is only under contract until 2027, the Bundesliga outfit are playing hardball in negotiations - and are reckoned to be holding out for £126m (€150m).

Wirtz, 22, is eager to move to Merseyside and a new report in Germany now states that a further bid is expected. And, crucially, it’s described as Liverpool’s “final” offer.

'Final' bid for Wirtz

While the club are reported to be unwilling to meet the full asking price for Wirtz, it remains to be seen how this bid will be handled by the 2023/24 German double winners.

Nonetheless, Christian Falk of BILD seems optimistic that a compromise will be soon reached.

“Bayer Leverkusen expect the final offer promptly from FC Liverpool for Florian Wirtz (22),” he states on X.

“They assume that both sides agree on an amount of €140 Mio including add-ons. A offer of €130 Mio was already rejected.”

Wirtz to be record signing

If the bid is accepted then a deal for Wirtz could move quickly. He would end up being Liverpool’s most expensive player by a CONSIDERABLE margin.

The previous record remains the fee paid to Benfica for Darwin Nunez back in 2022. That fee could reach £85m if all add-ons are activated but at this stage it looks like the 25-year-old’s Liverpool career is coming to an end before that happens.

Wirtz a highly-rated playmaker

Wirtz was recently in action for Germany during the Nations League finals. His side lost at the semi-final stage to Portugal, before rounding off a disappointing few days with a further defeat to France in the bronze medal match.

An attacking midfielder who can play from the left, Wirtz has scored 57 goals in 197 games for Leverkusen since making his debut during the 2019/20 season.

He is a one-time Bundesliga player of the season award recipient (2023/24) and has been the German players’ player of the season in the last two campaigns.
