Liverpool Women edge incredible seven-goal thriller with Chelsea | OneFootball

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Liverpool fought back and eventually defeated Chelsea 4-3 to damage their Barclays Women’s Super League title hopes.

The result leaves Emma Hayes’ side still six points behind leaders Manchester City with now just the one game in hand.

Chelsea got in front with less than ten minutes played, Aggie Beevor-Jones heading home a corner and it was nearly 2-0 moments later but Tegan Micah saved from Sjoeke Nusken and Taylor Hinds cleared the loose ball.

Sophie Roman Haug failed to find the target for Liverpool when the ball fell for her approaching half time, Hinds had a shot on the turn deflected wide.

Liverpool’s Marie Hobinger let an opportunity get away from her right at the start of the second half, then from her 51st-minute corner Haug headed the hosts level.

Hannah Hampton came to the rescue for Chelsea when Mia Enderby burst into the box, but they were behind midway through the half from another corner, Erin Cuthbert with the touch into her own net.

Chelsea were back on level terms but only very briefly with ten minutes to go, Beevor-Jones burying Niamh Charles’ cut-back before Ceri Holland played in Leanne Kiernan to slot home.

Moments later and it was 3-3, Cuthbert pulling the ball back and Cataraino Macario’s shot blocked on the line but then going in off Micah.

Liverpool were back in front from yet another corner, Gemma Bonner heading home in stoppage time and Micah denied Beevor-Jones her hat-trick from a powerful strike near the end.
