Just a few short weeks on from a Merseyside Derby showdown at Goodison Park it was back to the Totally Wicked for a Women’s League Cup meeting between the Red and Blue half of the city.
Somewhat hampered by injury in recent weeks, Liverpool boss Matt Beard named a strong side containing the likes of Cornelia Kapocs, Taylor Hinds and Ceri Holland for the visit of their bitterest of rivals.
Having beaten Everton 2-1 in the reverse fixture in last year’s Conti Cup, only to be eliminated after defeats to Man Utd and Man City, Beard will be hoping for another taste of Derby success and hopefully, a longer cup run to follow…

It was the aforementioned Holland who produced the first nearly moment of the match when she diverted an effort goalbound only for Everton captain Emile Ramsey to palm it away before the visitors eventually dealt with the loose ball.
Just a few minutes later it was Liverpool’s press that caused problems as Everton failed to clear their lines successfully, the ball falling at the feet of Kapocs who fired a well-struck volley straight at Ramsey.
The Reds were piling on the pressure now and it was once again Holland and Kapocs testing the Blues’ keeper, albeit she stood up to both efforts on her goal making it four saves in the opening 20 minutes.

Finally, the pressure turned into goal when Jenna Clark met Holland’s deep corner at the back post and rose higher than anyone to nod home and give the hosts a deserved lead shortly before the half-hour mark.
Beard made changes at the break introducing Jasmine Matthews and Olivia Smith and the latter was a constant problem for the visiting defence, using her body to hold off defenders time and time again as the Canadian continued a return to full fitness.
There was one disappointment on the night as Leanne Kiernan was forced off ahead of the hour mark due to injury, the forward looked despondent as she made her way down the tunnel.
However, for Liverpool, it was more of the same domination and it was her replacement Mia Enderby who doubled Liverpool’s advantage to put the hosts in complete control with a well-taken goal.
In the final 10 minutes, both Neve McDonald and goalkeeper Eva Spencer were brought on from the bench for their senior debuts, a reflection of Beard’s desire to use youth within the squad and Liverpool’s superiority on the night.
Kapocs finally got her goal befitting of her performance when Daniels found the forward in the area before the fired home emphatically to further reflect the dominance to make it 3-0.
Enderby was on hand to complete the victory with a fourth strike as The Reds ran riot in the closing stages with a handful of big chances to round off a superb performance.
