Liverpool are now looking to sign a player who can already call himself champion of the world.

It’s already been a busy summer at Anfield and we are just getting started.

Hughes has brought in Jeremie Frimpong to replace the departed Trent Alexander-Arnold, and now he’s close to securing the signature of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.

That is without mentioning that Liverpool have also signed Hungarian U21 international Ármin Pécsi. Meanwhile last summer, Hughes secured the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili who will finally link-up with the squad in pre-season.

But more business is on the way. Liverpool are about to do a major overhaul in the squad with several players expected to depart as well.

Among them, Jarell Quansah looks likely to leave. Fabrizio Romano has recently confirmed that he’s struck an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen.

If Quansah leaves, Hughes will be looking to replace him and it looks like they have set their sights on a World Champion.

According to DaveOCKOP Liverpool have already held ‘numerous discussions’ with Guehi’s representatives and he’s high on the shortlist of defenders to replace Quansah should his move to Leverkusen go through.

This is an interesting move. Guehi is about to enter the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace.

He’s still relatively young and will turn 25-years-old next month, which is still a baby for a centre-back.

Crucially he’s a homegrown player so he’d take up the place for homegrown players vacated by Quansah’s departure.

And most importantly Guehi already comes with an impressive track record.

Last season, he won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace. He’s their club captain and has worn the armband since he was 21-years-old.

He’s an England international who started four of the Three Lions’ last seven games.

Having come through Chelsea’s youth academy - there’s a strong line of success stories from former Chelsea players at Liverpool who have thrived at Anfield.

From Daniel Sturridge to Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke and Rio Ngumoha.

Impressively, as we mentioned above Guehi is already a World Champion as well.

Guehi was part of a golden generation of English talent who lifted the U17 World Cup in 2017.

The team included Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho, Morgan Gibbs-White and Conor Gallagher as well as Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster.

Guehi was one of the key players for England at the tournament and played every single game for his country.

He even scored in a thrilling final against Spain to secure the trophy for England.

Anfield Watch understands Liverpool could sign Guehi for as little as £30m.

For a World Champion with the pedigree of Guehi, that is an absolute bargain.
