Liverpool are closing in on Premier League glory and could clinch the title at Anfield this weekend, with Trent Alexander-Arnold in contention for a starting spot against Tottenham.
After six weeks on the sidelines, Trent Alexander-Arnold made a triumphant return last weekend, scoring the decisive goal as a substitute against Leicester. Now, the 25-year-old is expected to be restored to Liverpool’s starting line-up at right-back, taking over from Conor Bradley.
Alexander-Arnold’s presence offers Arne Slot an invaluable blend of creativity and defensive assurance. His return could not be better timed as Liverpool seek to wrap up the league title in front of a packed Anfield crowd.
Mohamed Salah is certain to start on the right wing, but Liverpool’s manager faces a selection dilemma for the remaining two forward positions. Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are currently tipped to retain their places after strong showings in recent matches.
However, Diogo Jota could be handed a start if Slot opts to refresh his forward line. Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, and Curtis Jones are also available but are likely to be named among the substitutes once again.
Liverpool’s squad is close to full strength, with only Joe Gomez sidelined due to injury. Slot provided an update during Friday’s press conference, saying:
“If his recovery goes well, he would be able to [play] maybe in the last one or two games of the season. But he is still not training with us yet. But he is coming closer and closer to train with the team.”
This news will come as a relief for Liverpool fans, who have seen injuries pile up at crucial stages of previous campaigns. Having a nearly complete squad gives Slot greater flexibility both tactically and in terms of squad rotation.
Liverpool only require a point to secure the Premier League title, but they will undoubtedly aim to seal the trophy in style. Facing Tottenham, who have struggled for consistency throughout the season, offers a golden opportunity to mark the occasion with a resounding victory.
Anfield will be expectant, with Sky Sports broadcasting the match live at 4:30pm BST on Sunday, 27 April 2025. All eyes will be on Liverpool to see if they can officially crown a remarkable campaign with another dominant display.
