Last week, Olympique Lyonnais received a significant sanction from the DNCG (Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion), placing the club under substantial financial pressure. While the Ligue 1 side have to sell players, they are holding out for prices they believe are suitable.
OL are facing the real possibility of relegation to Ligue 2 and needs to tackle its financial issues to avoid that outcome. This could lead to the club selling key players, such as Rayan Cherki and Malick Fofana, potentially for less than they’re worth in the winter transfer window.
Cherki, who extended his contract by two years in September, gives Lyon some leverage in negotiations. However, L’Équipe reports that a winter move is still a strong possibility.
While Cherki has long dreamed of joining Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring his situation closely.

TBR Football reports that Liverpool’s £17 million bid for the 21-year-old is expected to be rejected, with Lyon holding out for £29 million.
RMC Sport recently reported that Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of Cherki, impressed by his contribution to his team’s recent success. The club’s top decision-makers, including Arne Slot, have already approved his profile. PSG are also keeping an eye on the player but haven’t made any concrete moves yet.
Nonetheless, while Lyon are facing financial pressure, they aren’t willing to accept a low offer. If Liverpool want to secure the transfer, they’ll need to return with a higher bid.
