Across a transfer window, finding more than one team wanting the same player is inevitable.
It's all about which club has the most pull and in that battle, Liverpool will always back themselves.

This summer, it appears as though Newcastle are the Reds' main stumbling block. Both sides wanted Hugo Ekitike, although he eventually chose Liverpool and now that Alexander Isak wants to leave, the two clubs are engaging in intense negotiations - however, the script for that saga is still in the works.
But now that both fanbases have been pinned against each other, it only feels right that Liverpool and Newcastle now also share the same centre-back target - another hard fought clash awaits.
Liverpool's main target to replace Jarell Quansah is the Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who has been attracting a lot of attention over the past few years. He's a really talented centre-half.
In addition to the leadership qualities he has to offer as the Eagles' talisman, he received his call-up to play for England last season and at 25 years old, he's the ideal Premier League-proven asset.
Previous asking prices have revolved around the £70m mark, which have significantly dropped recently since his contract at Palace will expire next year. This is their last-ditch effort to get a fee.
As such, the rumoured fee is now expected to be around £40m which is far more reasonable, but the Reds are still apprehensive to spend such an outlay when he's available for free in 12 months time.
The lack of movement on his future has allowed other clubs to enter the race and Newcastle are now assessing a new approach for him after three failed bids last summer, according to The Times.
In their latest report, Paul Joyce and Martin Hardy said: "He [Eddie Howe] is searching for a right-sided centre-back before the window closes. Newcastle have tracked the Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini, as revealed in The Times, and began talks for the player in June. However, Atalanta have firmly rejected any approaches for the 21-year-old Italy international.
"Newcastle will instead try to revive a deal for Guehi, 25, who they failed to land with three bids last summer. Since then, Newcastle have secured the added attraction of Champions League football for a player who has never played at that level."
As such, the Reds have competition for him, although the reported asking price that Palace are looking for is said to be £50m, which would suggest the £40m claims are merely hopeful valuations.
Whether Guehi is someone that Liverpool want to bring in this summer or not is still to be decided, with other targets such as Geovanni Leoni at Parma appearing to have been added to the shortlist.
Furthermore, whether Newcastle can get the transfer across the line is still to be understood. As mentioned earlier, this would be their fourth attempt at signing Guehi and this summer has been a less than successful one in the transfer market. The Magpies desperately need a slice of luck.
The current intel from Ed Aarons at The Guardian is that Crystal Palace are yet to receive any offers and Liverpool are still though to be his preferred options, but he is happy to stay at Selhurst Park.
Which team makes the first move will decisive for this one, but Liverpool will not shy away if the conditions of his departure change to fit with the club's estimations of him. A centre-back will need to be signed this summer, whether it's Guehi that arrives through the door or someone else entirely.
