Liverpool have set an asking price of £59m for Darwin Nunez this summer after an approach from Al-Hilal.

Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool after failing to win the trust of Arne Slot last season. The Uruguay started just eight times in the Premier League and is exploring his options.

Atletico Madrid are genuine admirers of the forward, while there’s strong interest from Saudi Arabia after Al-Nassr saw a bid knocked back in January.

Liverpool did not want to deplete their options mid-season as the club chased the Premier League title but will consider proposals this summer.

The Reds’ board are understood to have placed a price tag of €70m (£59m) on Nunez, according to talkSPORT. Despite an inconsistent period at Anfield, Liverpool believe Nunez’s record of 25 goals and 13 assists from 49 starts in all competitions justifies that valuation.

Al-Hilal’s interest in Nunez comes after a failed bid to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli. The Saudi side had hoped to sign a marquee striker before this summer’s Club World Cup but will re-focus their efforts when the transfer window reopens later this month.

Al-Hilal are expected to sell Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and Nunez is viewed as a potential replacement.

Liverpool are keen to recoup as much of their investment in Nunez as possible. The Reds signed Nunez for an initial fee of £64m from Benfica in 2022, rising to £85m with add-ons. The funds recouped will be reinvested into the signing of a number nine, amid interest in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike.
