Accordingly Liverpool could opt to cash in on the 26-year-old this summer rather than losing him for free.
Right now the prospect of Konate renewing looks remote and the Reds could attempt to replace the 2022 World Cup finalist with Marc Guehi.
It’s been a few weeks now since stories first broke linking the Crystal Palace captain with a move to Anfield. Although Liverpool have been active in the market - both with incomings and outgoings - Guehi remains at Selhurst Park.
Like Konate he is out of contract in 2026 and his club will be desperate to receive a decent fee for the 24-year-old. But right now there are no guarantees that he will be on Merseyside next season.
It’s been claimed that Newcastle have re-entered the race for the England international and are described as “hopeful” of adding the stopper to the ranks for the campaign ahead.
A report in GIVEMESPORT claims Eddie Howe and his Newcastle backers intend to test Palace’s resolve for Guehi in the knowledge that they do not want to lose him for free.

“There is a desire to secure long-term target Guehi in the remainder of the summer transfer window,” the report reads. “Newcastle are refusing to give up on striking a deal for Guehi.”
Tottenham had a £70m+ bid rejected back in January and Guehi would go for much less these days with less than 12 months on his current deal.
The Reds are not going to have it all their own way for Guehi should they decide to get involved with a bid.
