Liverpool have missed out on signing Leeds United sensation Archie Gray after the 18-year-old agreed a lucrative move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool were one of the clubs reportedly interested in a move for the versatile youngster, who blossomed for the Whites last season despite missing out on promotion to the Premier League.

Gray operated as a right-back for Leeds last season but is also comfortable playing in central midfield, with his exceptional displays winning him the Championship's Young Player of the Season award.

Naturally, the wonderkid had been attracting interest from Premier League giants but it appeared that Brentford had managed a remarkable coup after agreeing a fee with Leeds for Gray.

However, that deal fell apart and the teenager will now make the move to north London outfit Tottenham ahead of the 2024/25 season.

ARCHIE GRAY AGREES TOTTENHAM MOVE

Liverpool's interest in Gray had been reported widely but the Reds evidently decided against pursuing a move for the talented youngster.

Tottenham have agreed a £40m fee with Leeds according to The Athletic, with Joe Rodon, who is valued at £10m, heading in the other direction. In essence, Spurs are actually paying just £30m for Gray.

That seems like a decent price for a young English player of such huge potential, with Liverpool also boasting plenty of fodder that could have been sent to Leeds as part of a deal.

However, given Liverpool are not expected to strengthen at right-back or central midfield this summer, the club avoiding such a deal is unsurprising.

The Reds are likely to focus their transfer interest elsewhere, with the possibility of a new centre-back and winger interesting decision-makers at Anfield.

Gray's Leeds teammate Crysencio Summerville has been one of the forwards most consistently linked with Anfield, but Liverpool's interest in last season's Championship Player of the Season has seemingly cooled in recent weeks.
