Isak turns down Newcastle

Isak is currently earning £120k per week - according to various sources - about as much as Liverpool pay Federico Chiesa.

That is vastly beneath what the Sweden international is worth in comparison to his striking peers - with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland taking home many multiples of that number.

Newcastle were prepared to go to £200k per week for the renewal - comfortably their highest-earning player in history - but even that wouldn’t be sufficient. The 25-year-old has now reportedly informed his employers that he wishes to seek a transfer elsewhere.

And guess who are the favourites at the front of the queue? That’s right, it’s Liverpool.

Isak's £300k per week demands

In order to land the former Borussia Dortmund forward however, Liverpool will need to match his new salary demands.

Isak is ready to charge £300k per week for his services - a sum which would place him under only Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah in the pecking order.

But if Liverpool get the likes of Chiesa, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz off the books this summer - they would be able to reassign those salary totals to Isak.

That would go a long way towards guaranteeing Isak the pay he believes he deserves.

Liverpool to break British record again

It brings into focus the staggering costs involved in signing Isak. Newcastle would reluctantly part with their iconic No14 - but only for a British record sum. According to the latest report in the Times, the Reds are standing by with a £130m bid for Isak.

That would cap a truly momentous summer of spending for the Anfield side - who have also signed Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Isak would top the lot - coming in at even more than the current record-holder - Wirtz - whose signing could top £116m if all add-ons are met.

Factor in the salary and you get an idea of the scale of the deal Liverpool are about to pull off.

Liverpool's Isak costs swell to over £200m

Let’s say Isak will command his entire £300k per week salary demands. And given he’s only 25, it’s likely Liverpool would give him a five-year deal as a minimum.

£300k gross per week equates to £15.6m a year. If you multiply that figure by five you get to an incredible £78m outlay. That goes on top of the transfer fee - which would be £130m+ .

So Liverpool will be shelling out £208m minimum to sign Isak for a five-year contract. Isak’s wages could also be topped up by bonuses and add-ons if a certain number of games, goals or trophies are met.

The more successful Isak becomes, the more money Liverpool will owe.
