Liverpool have held internal discussions over a potential move to sign Victor Osimhen.
Arne Slot wants to bring in a centre-forward as the Premier League champions continue to invest. On Friday, the Reds agreed a deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee that could reach a British record £116m. The deal for Wirtz will not end the spending, however, with Liverpool targeting a number nine.
Osimhen’s name has been discussed with the forward possessing a €75m (£63.8m) release clause in his contract at Napoli.
The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals in 41 games. The Turkish Süper Lig champions are working on a deal to sign Osimhen permanently but may find a transfer difficult to finance.
Givemesport have claimed Liverpool are considering making their move. While Osimhen’s reported wage demands represent a ‘stumbling block’ to a transfer, the conditions of a deal are being explored.
Osimhen turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal earlier this month in favour of remaining in Europe. It is hoped Osimhen could lower his wage demands to facilitate a move to one of Europe’s top clubs.
Prior to his fallout at Napoli and loan move to Turkey, Osimhen established himself as one of Serie A’s top strikers.
He was the league’s leading scorer as Napoli won a drought-breaking title in 2022/23 and was named the division’s Footballer of the Year. At international level, he’s scored 26 times in 40 caps for the Nigeria national team.
