Liverpool have rejected a first bid from Real for Alexander-Arnold, who is out of contract at the end of the season and free to speak to foreign clubs from January 1.

Liverpool have no interest in selling Alexander-Arnold in January and, according to reports, will continue to negotiate with him and his representatives to agree a new deal.

The club insist Alexander-Arnold has expressed no desire to leave.

The Guardian report the approach from Real was turned down “before any financial package for buying out the remainder of his contract could be offered".

It has been reported that Liverpool still retain “hope” that Alexander-Arnold will commit his future to his boyhood club.

In response to the offer from Real Madrid, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher posted on social media: “The most important thing for Liverpool in 2025 is winning the Premier League. No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that!

“I love Trent as a lad and a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid and also would’ve known Liverpool would turn it down. It’s to try and cover themselves when he leaves for free.

“Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a huge game coming up.”
