Liverpool have secured their 'NEW' forward

Liverpool have their 'new' forward and things could finally be coming together at last.

There's been a lot of conversation about the club's forward line this summer. It's the one area where every supporter wants Richard Hughes to bring in a shiny new toy.

The shiny new toy that all of us are thinking about is Alexander Isak. The prospect of him in a Liverpool shirt is simply mouthwatering. Isak is the best striker in the Premier League. He's an elite goal-scorer and adding him to a line-up with Mohamed Salah and Florian Wirtz would be incredible.

There's a caveat though. Isak is not going to be easy to sign. Newcastle United know he's their prized asset and they don't want to sell him.

So, what happens if Liverpool don't sign him? Where do they go next? Do they take a 'risk' and sign someone like Benjamin Sesko or Hugo Ekitike, or... do they go with the man a reborn? The man who has shown he could their 'new' striker.

What if Hughes didn't even have to enter the market? What if there was a man raring to go, raring to prove people wrong and ready for a fresh start?

Someone who has already proven in flashes what he can do in the Premier League. Someone who is still young and at one point was considered one of the best strikers in European football.

Against Preston North End, there were a lot of encouraging performances. But the most impressive one was arguably Darwin Nunez's second-half performance.

The Uruguayan has been heavily linked with a move away but he showed a 'new' side of him, and a 'new' look to him as well.

With his shaved head, Nunez looked like a 'new' no.9. We haven't seen him sport that look in the Reds' shirt yet and it wasn't just the hair that was different and new.

It was the performance as well. Nunez looked like a different version of himself, he looked exactly like the no.9 Liverpool need right now.

From his goal, the way he pressed the defender to commit the error and then how he closed in on goal and kept his composure to go round the goalkeeper and put the ball in the back of the net.

Then there was Liverpool's third goal. Normally as Ben Doak squared that ball for Cody Gakpo, Nunez would have smashed it. That was the Nunez of old though. The new Nunez brilliantly dummied the ball and allowed Gakpo to finish in a better position.

It was a brilliant decision and again it was the marker of a composed forward. This was like the Darwin we have seen at Benfica.

Perhaps the new hair, as silly as it sounds, might have given him more confidence. It's helped to inject a new lease of life into his career in the past.

At Benfica, Nunez was struggling and he had a lot of pressure on him in February 2021. That's when he decided to shave his pony-tail and go for a similar haircut to the one he's sporting now.

This change was the catalyst to his performances improving. In the next 61 games he played, he made 48 goal contributions, and scored 34 goals in the following 2021/22 campaign.

Perhaps Liverpool will see this new side of him as well. And in turn they might just have already secured their 'new' forward without needing to spend a penny.
