Liverpool FINALLY have advantage vs Spurs they've desperately wanted all season

Liverpool have an advantage against Tottenham Hotspur that they’ve chased all season long. The Reds can hopefully use it now.

Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and do so with a very rare advantage. The Reds have had a full week of rest - something they haven't had for a long, long time.

But more than that, Spurs haven't. They faced Chelsea in midweek, losing 2-0. In other words, Liverpool will go into this one fully rested while their opponents won't.

Liverpool's efforts across four competitions this season have left them without a situation like this. The UEFA Europa League campaign forced several midweek games, while fixtures were shuffled around as they ran all the way to the EFL Cup final and the FA Cup quarters.

Even when they did get weeks off earlier this year, their opponents were Burnley and Brentford. Two teams who didn't have other commitments that handed Liverpool and advantage.

So the Reds do have something extra here. And it's something that might just make a world of difference, even if it's come too late.

Liverpool finally get rest

Jurgen Klopp has vocally talked about a lack of rest this season - it's been one of the most talked about parts of Liverpool's season. The incredible run of games in 2024 stretched his squad so thin he had to use youth-team players, even winning a trophy with several on the pitch.

And even through this run of awful form, Liverpool haven't really had a breather. Would it have made a difference? It's difficult to say but it would have certainly done more good than harm. There's even a chance that it's exactly what the squad needed to get back on track.

So it's a massive shame that it's come right as Liverpool have nothing to play for. Their title chances are essentially over, while they also can't drop out of the top four.

They can still end the season - and Klopp's reign - on a high, though. Hopefully, their rest at least allows them that.
