Interesting to see what Liverpool fans have been saying about Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.
A busy week of headlines involving the two strikers, Newcastle United and the Merseyside club.
United having had an offer of £69.5m turned down by Eintacht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike, with Newcastle widely reported to want the French striker to play alongside Isak, not replace him.
That followed by Liverpool telling the media they’d be prepared to pay £120m if Newcastle were willing to sell Alexander Isak.
Then, media claims that the Scousers are now trying to buy Hugo Ekitike instead.
So how do the Liverpool fans see things regarding Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike…
The comments below from Liverpool fans on their TheAnfieldNoise and LFConline message boards:
‘Newcastle linked with Ekitike.
I dont see them buying him and Elanga without selling.
Isak en route.’
‘It’ll be very interesting to see if Newcastle being advanced with Ekitike actually opens a door for us attempting Isak (even if it’s next Summer) or if it’s simply Newcastle strengthening seriously to try and become a regular Champion’s League participant.’
‘I just don’t see how they’re splurging that much without bringing a fair bit and there’s only Gordon,Isak or Bruno who’s fetch high fees I’d think.
Maybe they are just going for it but they were allegedly close to PSR limits not long ago.’
‘I think they were pretty tight for it a while back, but at the end of 23/24 they got most of £70m from Anderson and Minteh sales.
Can’t speak on 24/25 but now that they’re a Champion’s League side you’d think they have a bit more wiggle-room and they still have the option of selling someone like Gordon if they do want to balance things out – so I think they can probably have Ekitike and Isak without a PSR panic – but just will need to make a sale somewhere.’
‘Going by the rumours, liverpool have serious interest in isik and ready with a big offer but wont make a bid unless newcastle change there “not for sale “stance.
Dont think liverpool will wait to long before moving on and newcastle may only have a few days to decide.’
‘Reading between the lines-
Newcastle after Hugo Ekitike, then liverpool to sell nunez and buy isak.’
‘Sky reporting we’ve opened talks with Ekitike.
Exerting pressure on Newcastle no doubt.’
‘He has a lot going for him (Ekitike) but my word, if Darwin’s finishing annoys people, Ekitike will have them pulling their hair out.’
‘Aye really hoping this is a bluff, I’m not excited by this at all.’
‘I really hope we don’t end up spending big on Gordon, there’s going to be a lot of disappointed reds if they’re expecting him to contribute to Gakpo and Diaz levels. He’s nowhere near.’
‘Isak’s price tag would be huge, but selling Núñez (£40m?) and Elliott (£35m?) would get us halfway to the alleged £150m.’
‘Hope we get Geuhi and Isak. Not overly fussy on Rodrygo to be honest.’
‘Would be funny if the Saudis bid big for Diaz and Nunez. We give Newcastle the money, and it frees them up to spend a little bit more.’
‘My take is that Newcastle are looking to add Ekitike to their front line, not to replace Isak with him.’
‘So we’ve not made a bid and Newcastle are clear they don’t want to sell but we’ve let them know we’ve £120m if they fancy it?
Not sure there’s that much to get excited about here.’
‘Isnt it well known that Isak didnt want to discuss a new deal this summer and has asked to be informed of any LFC Interest.
If Newcastle know he wants out, wont sign deal and head has been turned then they may decide to sell.’
‘Not heard anything about him wanting to be kept abreast of any interest from us. I’m sure his agent is already fully aware of any interest we may have.
As for not signing a new deal, hasn’t he got three years left. Not exactly in a position to be holding Newcastle to ransom.’
‘LFC can snap up Etitike while Isak can wind down his contract and get his agent to start contacting LFC once he has 1 year left.
All it takes is for the geordies to struggle both in the league and the UCL in the coming season and it can all unravel for them quite quickly because sure as, Isak will not renew his contract in the near term’
‘And yet, here we are: the barcodes have told us that Isak isn’t for sale. They still pursue Ekitike. So what can we expect? Also, I’d be very surprised if we had the 100m+ upfront needed to buy Isak.’
‘Sandcastle thinking if they buy Ekitke, keep Isaak, they would then work Gordon onto us… Yeah right..!’
‘We are getting him guys!!! Just Isak needs to tell them he needs to join us – i am sure he would want to join us else we wouldnt have bid in the first place.’
‘I do not think we make the approach for Isak unless we are convinced he wants to come here.’
‘I am absolutely certain that Liverpool don’t put this out without encouragement from somewhere. I think the player would like the move and it’s now down to him to be clear with Newcastle that he wants to go.’
‘I’m just saying that Newcastle are lying when it comes to their reported desire to have Isak and Ekitike playing together.’
‘Newcastle sign Ekitike with us stepping aside then we go and spend £135M on Isak with Newcastle then go out and renew their interest in Mbeumo and nick him after he grows tired of [Man] Utds inability to complete the deal with Brentford?’
‘Don’t care what they do after we get either Isak or Etiquette.’
Hugo ‘Etiquette’
‘I think they’ve probably signed Elanga instead of Mbuemo already.
And much as it would be funny because of how it would mess with [Man] United, Newcastle will be stronger competition this coming season, so would be against anything that made them stronger.’
‘I just have a feeling we wont get Isak or Etitike.
Both are smokescreens but for who???’
‘There’s a part of me that thinks we know Isak is unattainable this window and that we were just firing a shot across the bow of Newcastle for interfering with our pursuit for Ekitike.
