One promising Liverpool defender is expected to sign a new deal at the club.

So much has been spoken about the players coming in, that the attention has faded from those who could still leave the Reds for pastures new.

It's crazy to say this but there's still a long time until the transfer window shuts close. This time last year, Liverpool had not made any signings just yet.

We aren't even into August, which is when we will enter the last month of the window.

And the truth is there are a lot of players who are facing uncertain futures at the club. Even those who are in training camp in Hong Kong.

Most notably, Luis Diaz is someone who is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich and who could be leaving the Reds this summer. Then there's Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton, who are both likely wanting more minutes in the first team and therefore keen to get a move elsewhere.

This is before we forget about the situation of Darwin Nunez, who is also the subject of interest from other parties. And not to mention, Liverpool still have to decide whether they want to enter the new season with three senior left-backs after Milos Kerkez joined Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson.

There's also an even bigger question when it comes to the future of Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman is set to enter the final year of his current deal and at this moment he has not extended his terms with the club.

Whether he does or not remains to be seen.

One player though who is set for a contract extension is Luca Stephenson. That's according to The Athletic who claim Stephenson is expected to sign a new deal with the club before heading out on loan again.

The young defender was out on loan at Dundee last season, and most played as a wing-back in their system.

Under Slot in pre-season, he's been used as a centre-back against Preston North End and stood-out to the challenge with a brilliant performance.

Stephenson is a defender who is very versatile and he doesn't just play in defence either. He can play in midfield roles, including as a holding midfielder and as a no.8.

These qualities is why he's earned himself a spot on the club's pre-season tour to Asia, and why he has Arne Slot among his admirers.

The next step for him will be to find another club where he can go out on loan and improve even more in order to stand a chance at eventually bedding himself into the club's first team.
