Liverpool have confirmed they paid out a total of £9.6m relating to Jurgen Klopp's departure from the club last summer.

Klopp surprisingly stepped down from his role as manager at the end of the 2023/24 season, two years before the expiry of his contract, as he complained of the mental fatigue that came with nine years at the helm.

Following Klopp out the door were more than ten members of staff, including assistants Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz and Vitor Matos, goalkeeper coaches John Achterberg and Jack Robinson, fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer and head of recovery Andreas Schlumberger.

In their latest financial report, Liverpool confirmed the departing group received a combined £9.6m to cover the time they had remaining on their contracts at the time of Klopp's departure.

The sum contributed to a pre-tax loss of £57m for Liverpool, who paid the price for failing to reach the Champions League in the 2023/24 season. Only playing in the Europa League brought a drop in media revenue of £38m.

Before Klopp departed the club, he managed to qualify for this season's Champions League. Under his successor Arne Slot, the Reds are among the favourites to win the competition, with a deep run expected if they can navigate a tricky last 16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
