Liverpool have confirmed that Italy international Federico Chiesa is part of the travelling squad for Tuesday night’s Champions League clash against Milan in San Siro.
The former Juventus and Fiorentina winger could potentially make his Liverpool debut back in his home nation, having been left out of the matchday squad for recent Premier League fixtures against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.
Chiesa officially joined Liverpool from Juventus on transfer deadline day, but has not yet played for his new club after a difficult pre-season.
The 26-year-old had been informed that he would not be part of Thiago Motta’s plans had he remained at Juventus, and spent most of the summer training individually, away from the rest of the new-look first-team squad.
Chiesa was also left out of the most recent Italy national team squad for similar reasons. Luciano Spalletti, who had wanted to bring Chiesa along with him, confirmed that he would stay with Liverpool to complete a specific training regime to get his fitness up to matchday standard.
