If they leave, Liverpool will be looking to bring in at least one other attacker alongside Wirtz. But the possibility remains in Liverpool signing not just one but two forwards.
Who those forwards will be remains to be seen. But one of them could be a dream option for Edwards in particular.
On the left of Liverpool's attack if Luis Diaz leaves, the Reds have a golden chance to now sign Rodrygo.
According to Ben Jacobs the Brazilian is available this summer with Real Madrid open to selling him for €90m to €100m.
Liverpool have held discussions about Rodrygo as well as Arsenal and Chelsea. Although the latter have their sights set on Jamie Gittens at the moment.
For Liverpool this could be a dream deal. Edwards has been a huge admirer of Rodrygo for a long time. He fits the mould of the type of player Liverpool want to bring into this attack.
Rodrygo will add speed and creativity. He's someone who is a generational talent and has been pinpointed as one since 2017 when Edwards first made an approach to sign him.
Back then Rodrygo confirmed that he wasn't ready to move to Liverpool. Now the situation is different. With Wirtz coming in and Mohamed Salah already at Anfield Liverpool are building an exciting dynasty in attack.
Joining a team like that would be difficult for the Brazilian to turn down. The Reds are a completely different team compared to what they were eight years ago.
They've been to three Champions League finals and won two Premier League titles.
On top of that, Rodrygo will be able to play as a left-winger, his preferred position at Liverpool. Something he was never able to do at Real Madrid.
The fact that the Reds could sign him for as little as €90m , demonstrates just how much of a bargain Rodrygo would be.
