Liverpool made history today despite suffering a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

The Reds home clash with Nottingham Forest broke Anfield's all-time league attendance record, with 60,344 present for the disappointing defeat.

Anfield's league attendance record has been broken multiple times over the last few months following the expansion of the Anfield Road end over the 2023/24 season.

Liverpool's all-time record home attendance remains a 1952 FA Cup clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers, which was watched by 61,905 supporters.

Slot denied a record-breaking start

The Reds enjoyed an excellent start to the Premier League season, winning their first three matches, scoring seven goals and conceding none, leading to a Manager of the Month nomination for Arne Slot.

Slot had already broken or matched a number of Liverpool records but he had the chance to do something no Premier League boss has managed before against Nottingham Forest.

If Liverpool had kept a clean sheet against Forest, Slot would have become the first manager in Premier League history to keep a clean sheet in each of their first four matches.

The Reds would also have become only the fifth side in English top-flight history to win each of their opening four fixtures in a season without conceding a goal.

Liverpool lose to Forest

Unfortunately for Slot, Callum Hudson-Odoi not only scored the first goal that Liverpool have conceded all season but also delivered the Red's first loss of Arne Slot's tenure.

After being frustrated by Forest all afternoon, Liverpool lost their perfect record in the Premier League when Hudson-Odoi scored a stunning strike from outside the area in the 72nd minute.

The loss sees Liverpool drop to three points behind Manchester City and signals the start of a difficult period in which the Reds will play seven games in just 21 days.

Liverpool supporters will be looking for a quick bounce back when their team travels to the San Siro to take on AC Milan in their opening game of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday 17 September.
