Manchester City are behind in the race to sign Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, after the Algerian defender decided to leave Molineux this summer.

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are expected to make additions to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign starting in mid-August, with the potential exit of Sergio Gomez creating an opening to sign a left-back during the summer transfer window.

Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake have predominantly occupied the left-back position for the Sky Blues during the most recent campaign, with Gvardiol having moved to the Etihad Stadium in a £77 million deal from RB Leipzig in August 2023.

Manchester City could look to sign a more traditional left-back however, with Real Sociedad and Bayern Munich amongst the clubs interested in signing full-back Gomez, after the Spaniard made just four starts for the Blues during the 2023/24 campaign.

Wolves and Manchester City did major transfer business last summer, completing a £53 million deal for Matheus Nunes to make a late switch to the Etihad Stadium, following Kevin De Bruyne suffering a long-term hamstring injury.

The two clubs could complete business for a second successive summer, after the Premier League champions emerged within a trio of clubs to be interested in signing full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.

The 23-year-old made 33 Premier League appearances for Wolves last season, and was also directly involved in two goals in three Emirates FA Cup showings.

The Algerian international played 38 games for Gary O’Neil during the campaign, but has reportedly informed Wolves of an intention to leave the Midlands club this summer, according to Abdel Hamed.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are all claimed to be ‘tracking’ the 23-year-old, although Liverpool are currently reported to be in ‘pole position’ to land the signature of the Wolves left-back.

The Etihad outfit have also previously been linked with a move for Wolves and Portugal midfielder Pedro Neto.
