Kicker reports that the blockbuster deal to send Florian Wirtz to Liverpool is now in its final stages. Germany’s most reliable footballing publication speaks of a “decisive breakthrough” on Friday. Wirtz should be unveiled by the English champions shortly for a fee that will rise to €150m with easily achievable bonuses. The Premier League and the Bundesliga are on the verge of the biggest transfer in their respective histories.
Kicker insists that there are “no longer any serious doubts” that the deal will go through. The deal should easily eclipse both the transfer of Ousmane Dembelé from Borussia Dortmund to FC Barcelona in 2017 (for a fixed sum of €105 million) as the most expensive transfer in Bundesliga history.
Argentine World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez’s move from Benfica Lisbon to Chelsea FC five years later (for €121 million) currently counts as the most expensive purchase in Premier League history. That should also easily be smashed.
