Liverpool are set to take their transfer outlay for the summer window to nearly £300 million after agreeing a deal worth £69 million plus £10 million in performance-related bonuses for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

Ekitike became the Premier League champions’ top centre-forward target after their pursuit of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak failed to gain traction.

The Reds intensified discussions with Eintracht late last week and were granted permission to negotiate personal terms with the Frenchman. The £10 million in additional payments are tied to both individual milestones and club success.

Seventh arrival in statement window

Ekitike is set to become Liverpool’s seventh recruit in what has been a bold summer under new manager Arne Slot. The striker follows Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Miloš Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Freddie Woodman through the door.

The 23-year-old has provisionally agreed to a six-year contract and is expected to link up with the squad later this week for their pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan. The club landed in Hong Kong on Monday ahead of Saturday’s friendly clash with Milan.

Ekitike will undergo a medical in the UK on Tuesday before completing the formalities of the transfer and boarding a flight to Asia. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and senior members of the medical department have stayed behind to oversee the final steps of the move.

Ekitike netted 22 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions in his debut Bundesliga season, helping Eintracht qualify for the Champions League. Newcastle made a £70 million offer last week, but the forward made it clear he favoured a switch to Anfield.
