Inter Miami and Argentina talisman Lionel Messi is set to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from US President Joe Biden on Saturday at the White House.
The 37-year-old forward is a surprise candidate for the award, which he will receive alongside the likes of basketball icon Earvin 'Magic' Johnson as one of 19 of the most famous names in politics, sports, entertainment, civil rights, LGBTQ+ advocacy and science.
It is the highest civilian honour able to be given in the US, and is reportedly as a result of both his impact on MLS and his charity work done since his arrival in Miami.
