Barcelona legend Lionel Messi made clear that he remains the club’s biggest follower with his votes for the recent Kopa Trophy.
The Kopa prize, handed out at the Ballon d’Or ceremony to the best performing U21 player across world football, was last week scooped by Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal.
The 17-year-old is of course fresh off the most remarkable breakout 12 months, which saw him not only emerge as one of the first names on the team sheet in Catalunya’s capital, but play a starring role for Spain en route to Euro 2024 glory, too.
His triumph in Paris last Monday therefore came as little surprise.
Elsewhere in the final Kopa standings, Barca teammate Pau Cubarsí was also recognised for his excellence across the year to date with a place in 5th.
One individual who voted for the young defender to finish altogether higher, though, was the aforementioned Lionel Messi.
After the votes of former Ballon d’Or winners for the Kopa Trophy were this weekend revealed online, it was confirmed that eight-time winner Messi placed Lamine at no.1, with Cubarsí close behind in 2nd:
