Lille OSC are in the market for a centre-forward this summer. Jonathan David has departed upon the expiry of his contract, whilst Chuba Akpom, on loan from Ajax, will return to his parent club.
As per Le Petit Lillois and confirmed by L’Équipe, Lille are considering France’s all-time top-scorer, Olivier Giroud (38), to reinforce their forward line. The Frenchman has not played in Ligue 1 for 13 years, ever since his departure from Montpellier HSC to join Arsenal.
L’Équipe understands that talks are underway with Giroud, and Lille president Olivier Létang dreams of bringing the former Arsenal and Chelsea forward to the club. However, pulling off a deal won’t be entirely simple. The Frenchman’s contract with Los Angeles FC runs until the end of the calendar year. That deal includes the option for a third yea,r and his current deal at LAFC, estimated to be worth around €3m per year, is significantly above what LOSC could offer.
