Leicester City could soon be on the hunt for a new manager as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

It has been a nightmare season for Leicester in the Premier League, and their relegation from the top flight was confirmed last month with five games of the campaign still to play.

Having replaced Steve Cooper in November, Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently in charge at the King Power Stadium, but the Dutchman's dismal record has raised big question marks over whether he will remain at the helm next season.

Van Nistelrooy has confirmed that he is keen to lead the Foxes in the Championship, but although no final decision on his future has been made, Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett claimed last month that it is looking "increasingly likely" that the 48-year-old will not be given the chance to continue in the role.

In a further indication that van Nistelrooy's departure is on the cards, Leicester are believed to be weighing up alternative options, with Lee Carsley, Russell Martin, Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl and Bristol City head coach Liam Manning all reportedly under consideration.

Leicester City urged to appoint Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl

When asked who his preferred option would be of the candidates said to be in the frame, FLW's Leicester City fan pundit Louchlainn Martin insisted that Rohl would be the most exciting appointment for the Foxes and someone who could build something long-term at the club.

"With Ruud van Nistelrooy looking likely to leave - fingers crossed because it's not guaranteed just yet - my preferred option out of the names being linked at the moment would be Danny Rohl," Louchlainn said.

"I think he's young, he brings fresh ideas, and he's impressed with the job he's done at Sheffield Wednesday.

"He's shown he can organised the team well and get the players playing in a modern, energetic style of football, which I think is what the Leicester board and the majority of fans want.

"If you compare him to somebody like Sean Dyche, who is more pragmatic, or Russell Martin and Liam Manning, who I don't think are fully proven yet, Danny Rohl feels like the most exciting and forward-thinking option.

"I think he would really lift the mood and bring long-term progress.

"We need somebody who we can build a future around.

"Of course, there are no guarantees in football, he might turn around in a year's time and do a runner like Enzo Maresca did, but I think Danny Rohl would be the best option and best fit for Leicester for getting the best out of our young players and building something around him."

After giving what appeared to be a farewell interview on Saturday, it seems certain that Rohl will be leaving Sheffield Wednesday this summer, but the big question is which club will be his next destination.

Rohl is believed to be on Leicester's shortlist of targets to replace van Nistelrooy should they decide to make a managerial change, and as a newly-relegated club with vast financial resources and a strong infrastructure, he would surely be tempted to take over at the King Power Stadium, even if he would be facing a big rebuild after the club's relegation from the Premier League.

However, the Foxes are far from the only club keen to land Rohl's services, with Southampton, RB Leipzig, Crystal Palace and Fulham also thought to be keeping tabs on the highly-rated German, so they must have alternatives in mind in case their pursuit fails.
