According to various media this week, Liam Delap and his representatives have been in talks with Newcastle United and other Premier League clubs.

Ipswich have only scored 35 goals in their 37 Premier League matches and having started 32 of these PL games Liam Delap has had a direct involvement in 14 of the 35 goals, scoring 12 and two assists.

The Ipswich striker has a £30m relegation release clause, meaning that in the modern day football climate, he can be seen as available at a price below what his market value would be otherwise.

Now Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has confirmed that Liam Delap and his representatives have been having talks with a number of other clubs, ahead of what looks sure to be his departure from the relegated club.

As well as Newcastle United, the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have also been credited with interest in the 22 year old forward.

It look all but inevitable that Newcastle United will bring in another attacking option, especially if as expected, Callum Wilson leaves this summer. It would appear to many NUFC fans that having Liam Delap brought in to back up Alexander Isak would be a progressive step.

As for Liam Delap himself, if Eddie Howe wants him, then you would hope he’d see the positives of joining Newcastle United, ahead of say the shambles at Old Trafford and the circus at Stamford Bridge.

“Liam’s looking at his options for next year, which I think he is entitled to do and we support him with that.

“I think we have given him permission to do that this week.

“It’s a very important decision for his future.

“Of course there is a lot of interest and rightly so.

“I think part of his week has been having some of those conversations.

“It looks more likely than not that he will move on this summer and he has interest from pretty much every club in the league, I don’t think there are many clubs in the world who wouldn’t want to have him.

“Nothing is sorted, nothing is done or completed or even very, very, very close, so that process will take its course.

“We will be proud of the part that we have had in terms of Liam’s development and his contribution this season.

“If he stays with us, we will be delighted, and if he moves on this summer, it will be a positive sign for the club to have developed and sold a player at that sort of level and hopefully it will be a good move for him as well.”
