It was a huge blow for Ruben Amorim to lose Lisandro Martinez in February especially as Manchester United did not have a similar left-footed profile in the squad.

The ACL injury came at the worst possible time with the Argentine displaying close to his best form, impressing with his passing and ball progression skills.

The head coach was forced to come up with a solution and he opted to play Leny Yoro in that position and the summer signing has proven to be a revelation despite being right-footed.

He has not been afraid to step into midfield with the ball while his line-breaking passes have helped the Red Devils create chances galore even if the attackers have often failed to put them to bed.

Amorim delighted with Yoro

The Portuguese tactician has obviously been impressed with stats showing how the Frenchman has completed 90 percent of his passes in all three of his last league starts.

“He is working really, really hard,” Amorim had said. “I think he is gaining muscle, all these small things that you cannot see.

“I think he is going to be a top, top, top player and is going to have a great career here in Manchester. But for that, he knows that he has to prove [himself] in every match, so he is going to be ready for the next one.”

Incredible stat

And that is not the only area where the former Lille ace has impressed in. Defensively, he has been rock solid and has not been dribbled past in his last 12 appearances.

As revealed by Statman Dave on X (formerly Twitter), the 19-year-old has not been dribbled past in games against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Real Sociedad, Fulham, Ipswich, Everton, Leicester, Palace, FCSB, Fulham, Rangers.

An incredible stat considering he missed the first four months of action owing to an injury. Amorim will be delighted with what he has seen so far.

United had staved off competition from Real Madrid to sign the centre-back for an initial €50 million and it looks like money incredibly well spent.

Yoro is only 19 and it is scary to think how high his ceiling will be. Hopefully, he can keep at it in the games to come to ensure a great end to what has been a dismal season for the club.
