According to information from RMC Sport, RC Lens have abandoned their pursuit of AJ Auxerre striker Lassine Sinayoko (25).
Lens had reached an €8m transfer agreement with Auxerre, and also agreed on personal terms with the striker for a four-year contract. Everything was set for Sinayoko to arrive in the north of France following Auxerre’s Sunday afternoon match against OGC Nice.
However, Auxerre refused to grant permission for the forward to leave, after they reportedly gained cold feet. RMC Sport writes that Auxerre do not want to lose the striker, who scored five goals for them last season, and was a crucial part of their bid to remain in the top flight.
They are willing to forgo the €8m fee and keep the forward for the remaining year of his contract. The hesitation from Auxerre to complete this deal has finally led to Lens abandoning their pursuit. Sinayoko, for his part, reportedly has not tried to keep the transfer alive.
