Matchweek 26 saw a largely disappointing result and effort from Leicester. If it weren't for Southampton, the Foxes would be the clear-cut laughingstock of the league. But the team faced a potentially crueler fate during Saturday's EPL action.
Arsenal and Chelsea suffered defeats over the weekend. That on its own wouldn't raise too many eyebrows. After all, defeats can happen at any time in the Prem. But how these two sides dropped points drew a lot of ire from their fan bases. So much so that Ruud van Nistelrooy's side was mentioned throughout numerous lambasting comparisons.
There are a lot of similar talking points between the three aforementioned clubs. The Gunners failed to sign suitable support in the attack. Due to this and injuries, the attack often looks hopeless as a result. Meanwhile, the Blues are struggling, having inward conversations about their latest manager change.
Coincidentally enough, it's now Enzo Maresca in charge in London. The former Leicester coach has many spectators expressing a common theme when a newer face on the touchlines is struggling. 'At least under (in this case, Mauricio Pochettino), we had an identity.' This is similar to how many view the team after the latest King Power display.
Steve Cooper defenders received something of an increased vindication following the Brentford loss. RVN is currently struggling to pick up points. But more importantly, there isn't any room for optimism that he'll be able to earn a result anytime soon.
Leicester have overrelied on Jamie Vardy without adequately taking steps to support him. More importantly, as the 38-year-old advances in age, there is little suggesting that anyone in the building would know how to go about replacing the on-field contributions of the English striker.
Caught between being poor now and not having a bright future makes it difficult to foresee anything positive on the horizon. But in a further cruel sense of fate, the first LCFC encounter in March will be at Stamford Bridge.
There are only so many games left on the schedule. And with Wolves picking up three points over the weekend, the gap is dangerously increasing among those still fighting for a place in the Prem next year. A full reset may truly be what's needed at Leicester. For now, van Nistelrooy is fighting to not only prove naysayers wrong but to keep ahold of his current role.
