Leicester City Women have announced the signing of experienced American midfielder Celeste Boureille.

The Foxes have been one of the quietest clubs during the women’s transfer window so far this summer.

On Monday night, they announced that young goalkeeper Katie Keane was their first signing from Shamrock Rovers.

Their second signing on Tuesday will strengthen their side ahead of the 2025-26 Women’s Super League season.

Boureille, 31, joins the Foxes from French side Montpellier, after playing for a host of clubs across Europe, Australia and the United States.

Following Euro 2025, attention turns to the Women’s Super League season which begans in exactly a month’s time.

There will be a lot of excitement following England’s Euro 2025 glory, with the Lionesses also second-favourites with betting sites to win the tournament again in four years.

Who is new Leicester signing Celeste Boureille?

Celeste Boureille is a 31-year-old defensive midfielder with over 200 senior appearances.

She joins the club after three years at French side Montpellier.

Boureille moved to Europe in 2022, where she had a short spell at AC Milan before moving to France.

Born in San Francisco, California, Celeste began her career with the California Golden Bears at the University of California.

She joined National Women’s Soccer League club Portland Thorns in 2016, and helped the club win the NWSL Challenge Cup in 2021.

Her time with Portland included loan spells to Australian clubs Canberra United, Brisbane Roar and French side Fleury.

Though she never played for the senior USA team, she did represent the U23 team on three occasions in 2017.

She made 64 appearances at Montpellier, scoring four goals.

Why Celeste Boureille has decided to join Leicester

In her first interview with the club’s website, Celeste Boureille said she joined Leicester City to get experience of playing in one of the world’s top football leagues.

She said: “I haven’t experienced playing in England yet, but I know it’s one of the best leagues and competitions in the world.

Boureille, Keane and Amandine Miquel will be at the Foxes fanstore on Thursday, August 7th at 4pm for a meet and greet ahead of the new season.

“I am looking forward to challenging myself every day against the best players and hopefully helping the team as much as I can.”

When does the 2025-26 Women’s Super League season begin?

The 2025-26 Women’s Super League season begins in exactly a month, with Leicester City expected to be one of the teams scrapping it out towards the bottom of the league.

Leicester face a difficult start to the season with a trip to Manchester United on Sunday, September 7th.

The Foxes also face Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham during the opening month of the campaign.
