The Foxes are probably going to have a new manager come the start of the next term.

Leicester City have received a boost in their pursuit of potential managerial candidate Russell Martin as Rangers, who have been linked with the former Southampton boss, are reportedly pursuing a Real Madrid target.

Even though everything is pointing towards the Foxes having a new person at the helm of the first-team next season, the club's hierarchy are yet to confirm that Ruud Van Nistelrooy won't see out the remainder of his two-and-a-half-year deal.

Reports have stated that he will be out the door come the start of next season, but the man himself is none the wiser about his future and has called upon those above him to come to a decision, not for his sake, but for the sake of the club.

One of the options they have been linked with is Russell Martin. The Championship promotion winner has been out of work since December when he was sacked by the Saints. He has had some offers to return to management since then, which he has rejected, but Leicester are said to hold an interest in him.

They aren't alone in that regard, though, with Rangers also apparently keen on the 42-year-old. However, in what will be a boost to City's potential hopes of landing Martin, another candidate, Davide Ancelotti, has emerged as a leading contender to land the job at Ibrox, according to talkSPORT.

The son of current Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is set to leave the Bernabeu at the end of this season when his father becomes the boss of the Brazilian national team, and the Gers are said to be keen on giving the Italian a crack at the whip, making their chances of going after Martin less likely.

He is also not in talks to rejoin the club he captained as a player, Norwich City, as per The Pink Un.

Leicester may have to battle with the Scottish side over Danny Rohl - Sheffield Wednesday's manager - as he is also said to be on Rangers' shortlist. Ex-Everton don Sean Dyche has also been linked with taking over from Van Nistelrooy at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester need to have their manager situation sorted ASAP in order to act on summer plans

The Foxes have known their fate for a while now; they were officially relegated following a 1-0 defeat to eventual Premier League champions Liverpool with five games remaining in the 2024/25 campaign.

Plans for a bounceback season in the Championship should have already been constructed. Taking action to turn these hopes into reality is going to be hard to do without any certainty over who is going to be in the dugout next term.

Someone like Martin is very different to someone like Dyche. They are going to require two completely opposite styles of players. If Leicester don't have their ducks in a row soon, they could be playing catch-up for the whole summer.
