Fabio Capello believes that Atalanta have a chance to win the Serie A title amid a period of “transition” for Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus.

The legendary former Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, and England coach spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

This season, Atalanta won their first ever trophy under Gian Piero Gasperini as coach.

La Dea defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the final of the Europa League to get their hands on European club football’s secondary knockout trophy.

This has put the spot light on the club from Bergamo. And potentially posed the question of whether or not they can take this momentum and run with it next season.

In Serie A, La Dea can certainly aim for a top four spot. They have shown themselves to be capable of that for several years now.

However, as far as winning the title, that would prove more difficult.

Inter were close to unstoppable at the top of the table this season. And then teams like Juventus and Milan are always ready to reach a high level.

But for his part, Capello believes that there could be an opening for Atalanta.

Fabio Capello: “Atalanta Can Challenge For Serie A As Inter, AC Milan & Juventus In Transition”

Capello was asked whether he believes that Atalanta can fight for the Serie A title next season.

The legendary former coach replied “Yes. And I’ll explain why.”

“Gasperini has been coaching that team for many years now,” he continued.

“And he has clear ideas about what’s missing to make the next step.”

“The base he’s built is excellent. And I don’ think they’re missing much to fight for the title,” Capello said.

“Furthermore, the entire league is going through a bit of a moment of transition,” the former coach argued.

“Juve, Milan, and Napoli will start next season with a new coach. Inter have gone from having Chinese owners to American ones a few days ago.”

“La Dea, on the other hand, would start out with a well-known base.”
