Two current loanees will most likely not feature at Elland Road again, so how much can Leeds save if they let them go?
When you ask Leeds United fans about Jack Harrison and Sam Greenwood, there will be a few who reply with, "Oh, they still play for us?"
Greenwood last played for Leeds in August 2023 in their EFL Cup penalty defeat to Salford City, and you'd have to go further back to find the last time Harrison played for the Yorkshire club, actually scoring on his final appearance against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the 2022/23 season.
Both have enjoyed loan spells over the past couple of seasons; Harrison has continued to play in the Premier League with Everton, whilst Greenwood has split his time between Middlesbrough and Preston North End in the Championship.
Leeds will most likely be looking to part ways with the attacking duo permanently this coming summer, as neither are a clear part of Daniel Farke's plans, with his attacking options very much saturated at this time. The bonus is that the pair are on a hefty combined wage that, frankly, would be better spent elsewhere.
According to Capology, Jack Harrison is currently earning £4.68 million per year (£90k p/w) under his current contract, which he signed in April 2023.
The contract provided a £40k increase to his wages, making him the second-highest paid player at the club that season behind Rodrigo.
Despite his current contract not expiring until the summer of 2028, Leeds will most likely be looking to move him on, with the 28-year-old no longer part of Daniel Farke's plans.
And, with Everton reportedly not looking to make his two-year loan stay a permanent one, Harrison may have one eye on a return to the MLS, having spent two years in the states playing for New York City FC prior to his first season at Elland Road.
Also, according to Capology, Sam Greenwood racks up £1.56 million per year (£30k p/w), with his contract running out in the summer of 2026.
Despite operating at a solid Championship level over the past two seasons, Greenwood hasn't set the league alight and may become a victim to the impressive depth which Leeds currently have in their attacking areas.
Additionally, The Lancashire Evening Post reported in July that Preston inserted a buy clause into their loan deal for the 23-year-old.
Greenwood still has room to improve and may find himself making that jump up into the top flight at some point in his career. Ultimately, it does not look like he'll have time to prove that at Leeds, especially if Daniel Farke's side were to achieve promotion this season.
If both Jack Harrison and Sam Greenwood are offloaded from the wage bill at Leeds United this summer, the Whites will free up £6.24 million per year in contracts - a massive amount which could prove vital in their squad-building if they were to find themselves in the Premier League next season.
Also, with both men still under contract at the club past the end of the season, Leeds may look for decent transfer fees to reinvest into the squad, as neither man will likely be getting a look in at Elland Road past this season due to the immense squad depth which Daniel Farke currently has at his expense.
Leeds have managed just fine in attack since the two began their respective loan spells in 2023, and many Leeds fans will be hoping that this summer can see them look into reinvesting in other areas ahead of a prospective Premier League season.
