Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, with the deal said to be worth around £10 million up front, potentially rising to £12 million with add-ons.
The 26-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a four-year contract, keeping him at Elland Road until 2029.
Longstaff was entering the final year of his deal at Newcastle and saw limited action last season, making just eight starts in the Premier League.
Despite being a product of the club’s academy and amassing 171 top-flight appearances, he found himself behind the likes of Joelinton, Bruno Guimarães, and Sandro Tonali in the pecking order.
After nearly two decades at St James’ Park, Longstaff now moves on from his boyhood club, where he’s been since the age of eight.
He becomes Leeds’ fifth addition of the summer, following the arrivals of Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson, and Lukas Nmecha, as the club continues to strengthen ahead of the upcoming campaign.
