We asked Mark Jankowski to give us his match ratings and player comments after Leeds 0 Newcastle 0.
Pope – 6
Had very little to do but was very assured on crosses.
Had a couple of tricky back passes that put him under pressure and exposed his nerves but he made good decisions.
Trippier – 5
Some sloppy passes at times but was also heavily involved in our best play at the beginning of the match.
He’ll have better games.
Schar – 5
Similar to Trippier, he was loose with his passing at times, his trademark long balls were off all afternoon.
Did his defensive work well though.
Botman – 5
Had a lot more defensive work to do than the rest of the backline with Nmecha stood on his toes all game.
Lost more duels than I expected and had a few misplaced headers but similar to the other centre-backs, he did his defensive work well.
Burn – 6
I’ve given Burn the edge over Schar and Botman largely because of how he led by example.
Covered Tino well as he pushed forward and made calm decisions throughout. Looks a true England defender now.
Livramento – 6
Tino was heavily involved in everything good we did well at the beginning of the game.
Struggled alongside his teammates to break down a resolute Leeds defence for most of the game but he continues to look like one of the league’s best full-backs.
Bruno – 5
Slipped some decent balls through at the beginning of the game but often found himself outnumbered and the ref wasn’t as forthcoming with the whistle as normal.
Felt like the tactics stifled him.
Tonali – 5
Feel a little bad giving Sandro a five but I’m not sure anyone deserves much more.
He worked tirelessly all game but, as with many of his teammates, he often was turned back towards his own goal.
Ramsey – 5
He had a few bright dribbles early in the first half but was also caught a little short of sharpness in his defensive work as the half wore on. Wasn’t surprised he was the first one to make way.
Murphy – 5
Had probably two of our best chances (which isn’t saying much) but drifted in and out of the game.
He did stick a couple of cracking balls in but there was no one sharp enough to get on the end of them.
Osula – 4
He worked very hard but after his goalscoring cameo on Monday, Osula showed his inexperience this evening.
He was too blatant when giving defenders a little nudge and went down too easily a couple of times in the box.
Subs
Miley – 5
A solid performance from Miley but as with the rest of the team, the overall performance really caps how well you could say anyone played.
I was encouraged by his reading of the game in a few key moments.
Elanga – 5
He immediately got in behind his man and put in a good delivery after coming on, but that was about as good as it got, for the Swedish player who is actually turning up for work.
Hall – 6
He’s got to be close to starting again by the time Wolves come to St James’ Park next month.
As well as Tino has played at left-back, Lewis is such a natural. Failed to hit the target from distance with a decent sight of goal but unsettled his opposite full-back.
Barnes – 4
One of Barnes’ weakest performances.
Went down easily after being blocked off on more than one occasion, the ref wasn’t interested in any of them.
