Ahead of Lecce’s clash against AC Milan, head coach Luca Gotti has offered some insight into how he wants his side to play at San Siro, and it could lead to some criticism.
After last weekend’s fantastic victory against Inter, Milan must now do the hardest part, keep it up. Beating a rival is great, but in the long run, it is meaningless if momentum is not gained, and this is why Lecce offers a fantastic test.
The Rossoneri have shown their quality, and Fonseca has got his side believing in his ideas, or at least he did against the Nerazzurri. Now, these ideas must be shown once more, and the same levels of dedication are a must.
There are no shining lights on this game, and this has to be a run-of-the-mill victory for the Diavolo if they are to push on from the poor start to the season, failure to do so will re-open old questions.
Today, Gotti spoke to the media about the task his side faces, and his words have been relayed by Alfredo Pedulla.
“We will try to do our best. We meet a team that probably went through a moment of pressure but has now taken some weight off their shoulders. We’ll try to do our best to trouble and hurt AC Milan.
“We’ll look at ourselves, then there’s Milan with their characteristics. Putting everything together won’t be easy. I think above all about Lecce, then Milan.
“Football is very emotional. There are warnings sometimes, you can predict….. But then you happen to lose two important points in the play-off against Parma. Two points that would have given different environmental serenity to everyone, lost suddenly.
“In the cup it didn’t go as we hoped. I have to accompany the group in constant growth, accidents are part of the path. In every group there are those who have their moments of form, I think about the group.
“In principle, I think he [Fonseca] will continue with the derby line-up. He has shown courage. He has many players to continue in this direction [moving forwards].”
