Lazio will reportedly listen to offers for Samuel Gigot, whose importance to the cause has dwindled with Maurizio Sarri’s arrival.
The 31-year-old joined the Biancocelesti last summer on loan from Olympique Marseille. Although he wasn’t a regular starter under Marco Baroni, he did enough to trigger the obligation to buy inserted in his contract, thus completing a permanent transfer at the start of July. However, the Avignon native might not dwell in Rome for too long.
According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Italian capital side is now willing to consider offers for Gigot, who might be deemed surplus to requirements. Sarri will confirm Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli as his main centre-backs, and he’s also keen to maintain the services of his trusted ally Patric. Moreover, the returning manager is intrigued by the young Oliver Provstgaard.

As for the Frenchman, he now finds four defenders ahead of him in the pecking order. And amidst the absence of European football, he would certainly struggle for playing time. The report also highlights how Sarri only played Gigot for 33 minutes in Sunday’s friendly against Lazio U20, before bringing in the young Fabio Andre Ruggeri in his place.
While Lazio are prohibited from making any new signings this summer, they are allowed to offload players, as illustrated by Loum Tchaouna’s transfer to Burnley. Hence, it remains to be seen if Gigot will follow his young compatriot to the exit door. The source believes the experienced defender has suitors in Ligue 1 and the Russian top flight.
