Real Madrid once again raised the spirits of their fans with an incredible performance against Las Palmas, which was direly needed following the Spanish Super Cup final loss to FC Barcelona a week before.

The match did not start in the best of fashions for the Merengues, as the visitors got ahead even before a full minute had passed on the clock.

Fabio Silva finished a pinpoint cross from Sandro Ramirez to put his side ahead, and to raise fears among the Santiago Bernabeu faithful that their team would not be able to take advantage of the points dropped by their two main rivals in the league race, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

However, Los Blancos started putting the pressure on the visitors’ defence right after this initial setback, and eventually levelled the score only 17 minutes later as Kylian Mbappe converted a penalty that Las Palmas conceded for a foul on Rodrygo.

Fifteen minutes later, the Frenchman was once again immense for Real Madrid as he beat a defender with a classy move to start an attack, that ultimately ended in Brahim Diaz scoring his side’s second goal on the night.

The French superstar got even better as the game passed, and once again got on the scoresheet only 3 minutes after Brahim’s goal as he took full advantage of a Rodrygo pass inside the box to make the scoreline 3-1 with a first-touch finish.

Already having scored a brace, Mbappe could have completed his hat-trick before the half-time whistle as he put the ball into the back of the net for a third time in the 41st minute. However, this goal was chalked off for a highly controversial offside decision after a VAR consultation by the referee.

This was the last time the Frenchman put the ball into the net, but he remained dangerous throughout the rest of the game and could have gotten his hat-trick if he had been a bit more selfish in the second half.

In total, Sofascore notes that he took 6 shots in this game, 5 of which ended on the target while only 1 was off-target. He also put in 5 key passes on the night, creating 2 big chances.

His passing, in general, was also quite impressive, as he completed 30 of his 35 passes, getting an 86% accuracy rate, despite playing mostly in opposition areas. He also completed 1 of his 2 crosses and all of his 4 attempted long passes were accurate.

With this performance, Mbappe showed Real Madrid fans what he exactly brings to the team. Another positive aspect to take home from this showing was that he put in such a glittering performance from the centre-forward position, thus putting to bed any doubts about his ability to excel in this role.

Hopefully, he will continue to put up such performances in the games to come as well and help his team win some trophies at the end of this season. But for now, his mind will be fully focused on the upcoming match against RB Salzburg which is essential for the Merengues’ survival in the UEFA Champions League.
